This ensemble is comprised of all of the 6th grade band students across the woodwinds, brass, and percussion sections. This band currently meets three times per week.
Members of this ensemble participate in two off-site concert performances, one at the end of each semester. The rehearsals and the concert are mandatory functions that contribute to the student's grade for band class. Students will need to wear black pants (no jeans, belt recommended), black socks and shoes, and the purchased band shirt to each concert performance.
Instruments are assigned from those listed by the student on the class request form each year. Students will receive notification of their instrument assignment in advance of the school year and are required to secure this instrument unless otherwise noted. Instruments need not be brand new, they simply need to work, so decide what works best for your family in terms of borrowing, renting or buying. It is typically best to ensure the student's ability and desire match up with an instrument before investing too heavily.
The $150 band booster dues for this ensemble in the 2017-2018 school year includes the classroom instruction booklet, a brand-new band shirt, concert facility rentals, sheet music for all performances, additional educational instruction for students, as well as the purchase and maintenance of band equipment.
Please contact Mr. Hopper if you need to discuss your student's attendance, instrument assignment, progress, or any other aspect of 6th grade band.
